This week some terrible news struck the world. Beloved and famed Swedish musician, Tim Bergling, better known by his stage name, Avicii, passed away on April 20th, 2018. As far as I know they released no info to the cause of his death, but there is speculation that his death was related to his acute pancreatitis, which was due to heavy drinking of alcohol.
Personally, my favorite Avicii songs were "Levels", "Hey Brother," "The Nights," and "Waiting for Love," and my favorite "Wake Me Up." The lyrics in both "Hey Brother" and "Wake Me Up" are exceptionally moving, and the corresponding Youtube music videos are also well produced.
Since the last few years, I'm not sure any other celebrity death hit me harder than Avicii's. Mostly due to a personal connection I made with him in my lifetime. I remember listening to his songs come up on Pandora while I played Runescape in my teenage years. Rest in peace Avicii, you will be missed greatly.
I feel there was a point in time when WWE was not as 'fake' or staged as it felt when I watched it as a kid in the early 2000's. Bruno reminded me of Bruce Lee in some ways, in respect to his shear passion Bruno shown in his career.
Bruno was bullied as a kid as many of us were. He was foreign and moved to the U.S. at age 14 in 1950. He started his career by breaking records in weightlifting, then was picked up by the WWE organization, where he won several championships. Of course, at the time of his 25-year wrestling career, winning a WWE championship took actual skill and was not staged. Bruno displayed many good virtues that we all love and respect and will be humbling remembered. Rest in peace Bruno Sammartino.
